Dream Flower

abstract floral acrylic painting on canvas by Katy Casillas Gray

I am one of those people that will listen to motivational podcasts.  Especially when I am going through or dealing with difficult situations or feelings.  Sometimes these help me to see my situation from a different perspective.  Other times, they keep me from feeling sorry for myself.  I have also been known to listen to them at the beginning of a workout to get me motivated.  Which is what I was doing when I got inspired to do this painting.  I had my earbuds in, pre-workout stretch done, ready to burn some calories, and hit the play button.  High-pitched, repetitive musical notes caught my attention before  a man’s hypnotizing voice said, “What if you slept, and what if in your sleep…. you dreamed.  And what if in your dream you went to heaven…… and there picked a strange and wonderful flower.  And what if when you awoke…..you held that flower in your hand.  What then?????”  I know the message was about the importance of a person’s beliefs.    Whatever you believe, is what will become.  The author is stating that, “If you see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand.”    The mind is your most powerful ally, or your most destructive enemy.  But I was still thinking about the flower thing he said.   Right away I re-played the first part about the flower.  Then I re-played it a third time.  This time picturing this strange and wonderful flower.  Only my strange and wonderful flower wasn’t small enough to fit in my hand.  It was as big as me with large fluffy plumes shooting from its massive stalk.  It had gold threads coursing through its plumage of scarlets, violets, and oranges.  And while I was imagining myself walking around this amazing, exotic, giant of a flower, I was also wondering how my dream self was going to manage hauling it back to the real world.  I did manage to finish my workout.  But I kept thinking about that flower.  So I eventually painted it.  I still wish I could figure out how to grow it in my garden.  Because it truly is an amazing flower!
